Snow Day (And NOT the Good Kind)!!

"S#!* Happens"
~Unknown

It's a miserable day here in Minnesota... it began to sleet last night, and sleet turned to ice, and ice was followed by snow... lots and lots of it. As I've mentioned before, I manage a salon in Woodbury, MN and every day, I get to the salon early to open up the shop for the day and take care of business. However, this morning, I managed to move about three feet from my parking spot in the driveway before getting stuck and sinking my wheels about nine inches into semi-freezing mud. As I felt the car going down, I hopped out and took one look at the sad sight and thought, "Oh, s#!*". After about thirteen games of phone tag with the owner and the receptionist, it was determined that somebody had to get to the salon. And FAST. Lucky for me, my husband was willing to skip class and drive me in to work. *Thank you, four-wheel drive!* The owner was far less than happy at this point, mind you.

And as we're attempting to barrel down the road, we not only get stuck behind a grandma driver (yes, a real grandmother was driving), but Scott's windshield wipers stopped working halfway there. Had it not been coming down so hard, I'm sure he would have driven with his head out the window. But the icing on the cake had to be when I was finally pulling into the parking lot, fifty minutes late, and realized I had left my keys at home. So despite the fact that we had hauled ass in a blizzard to throw those salon doors open and allow the shivering stylists to get inside, I had failed at my duty. Big time.

In life, it seems that when one bad thing happens, other misfortunes occur in suit. Today, I felt like my little car: sinking deeper and deeper into that mud, wheels spinning and frantic to get out of that rut. I lost money, I looked irresponsible, and I embarrassed myself. But the fact is, sometimes after days like this, you just have to look back on what happened and LAUGH. It really was to the point of being tragically hilarious. True, I threw off people's schedules for the day, but it wasn't the end of the world. Money was still made, hairs were still cut, and schedules were adjusted. I may have been knee-deep in metaphorical mud today, but tomorrow may bring the thaw that helps get me back on solid ground. Days will happen like this (for some more than others) when nothing goes right, but the best attitude to take is to simply shrug it off and remind yourself: "$#!* happens." You cannot change your circumstances and you cannot change your luck; so let it slide, take things as they come and wait for it all to get better. It will.

So that was my lovely day... did anyone else have adventures in the snow??

Keep your stick on the ice,

P!
