There's no other love like the love for a brother. There's no other love like the love from a brother.
~Astrid Alauda
This past week I had the pleasure of having my little brother, Adam, home for Spring Break. I have three brothers: two older and then Adam. I grew up the only girl in this mix and, let me tell you, I could not have loved it more! I was such a tomboy in my younger days, counting my brothers among my best friends. I would strive to show them that I could fit in and keep up with them, despite the fact that I was a girl. We played sports together and I wore their old hand-me-downs (I know this is hard to believe from the girl who now owns 150+ pairs of shoes haha)! But as they say, "Favorites, favorites, we all have them!" and Adam was mine. We did EVERYTHING together growing up; he idolized me and I adored him. When he was little, he had a terrible speech impediment and I would be the only one who could understand him so I felt it was my need to stay by his side and interpret for him. As we grew up, he ended up choosing the same college as me at North Dakota State University. When I met Scott (my hubby), I moved back to Minnesota, but Adam and I stayed very much in touch and extremely close.
This is Adam:
Adam now has a good job in Fargo and goes to school full-time, so he only comes home maybe once or twice a semester. This was the first time I had seen him since Christmas and it was great to have him back. It felt as though he had never left.
So the lesson I learned from this past weekend has been to appreciate family for all they're worth! Life is too short and most of us don't get to see our families every day, so make the most of the little time you get together. Take time to check in with them, whether they are over seas or over the backyard fence. Your family is always there for you and it's important to keep that bond strong with them. Even when all your friends turn their backs on you and you feel that nobody cares... chances are, they do. How about you?? Do you have anyone special in your life that you are very close to? How do you keep in touch and keep your relationships strong? Count your blessings on this dreary day and remember the ones that have your back now and always- your built-in besties. Hope you all had a fun-filled weekend like me!
'Til tomorrow,
P!

Family is everything :)
