DIY: From Drab to Fab

Hello, lovelies and welcome to another Thursday morning! Today, as promised, I will be showing you a simple, yet fabulous DIY project that my bestie, Jessie, and I created earlier in the week: an adorable coat rack/shelf for your foyer! When we set out to start our DIY Date Day, we were not expecting to find these ugly little things...

But upon closer inspection, Jessie saw some great potential in them, so we picked them up from our local Goodwill for only $2.00. That's pretty hard to beat. Now, there's nothing wrong with rustic, but we were definitely looking to make these a little less... strong, so we began with a coat of paint.

Now, as lovely as our mountain and patriotic scenes were on these shelves, we were more than ready to cover them up. So as the paint dried, we ran to the craft store and picked up two sheets of craft paper, each. You could also use fabric, but we both found gorgeous paper that suited us just fine, thank you very much.

Our next step was to remove the back of the shelf to attach our paper securely.

Once the backs were removed, we were able to lay our paper down and attach it securely with industrial-strength glue. Normally, this is where you would use an exact-o-knife to cut the paper to size, but by some stroke of incredible luck, ours fit perfectly (good eye estimation, Jess!).

We then re-attached the shelves and added craft store gems to the tops of the pegs. Ours were actually decorative brads, that we removed the heads from and used, so whatever you'd like to use.

And voila! Our shelves turned out glamorous!

So, dear friends, the moral of the story is, you can take something with great bones from a thrift store, the curb, or family members, and turn it into something lovely and personal!

I have hope you enjoyed today's little tutorial; I know I have. I had so much fun with this that I can hardly wait for the next project I work on. I'll be sure to share it with all of you!

Have a great Thursday,
