Just a sneak peek photo from the trip!
Looking back, I feel silly now. There are so many things I open up about on my blog and so many strong friendships that come with disclosure, and yet, I was too embarrassed and reserved to talk about my fears on here. Blogging today helps me feel like I got it off my chest and it's not a secret anymore: Our little family isn't perfect! We don't have excess money and we can't always afford the things we want the most, but with faith and hard work, God keeps us going. Talking about money is very difficult... it's a status symbol, a reflection of our lifestyle choices, a sign of our work ethic. But it's tough out there. Finding a job is not always easy and, honestly, I'm not sure everybody is meant to work. Some people are supposed to be stay-at-home moms and housewives. A single-income family is nothing to be ashamed of. I do feel lucky that we have jobs to keep our heads above water financially, but I will never expect to live in excess. And that's okay. We live a simple life and we save what we can and spend when we feel we're able. We don't usually let it determine our future and I feel a bit sheepish that this past month, I was letting it consume me.
Most of you dolls who follow my blog identify with me so well because we have so much in common. A lot of us are young ladies: some married, some not; some working part-time, others full-time; and yet rarely do I see many of you raving about an expensive new purchase, an extravagant vacation, or a fancy new gift. Instead, I see creative, smart women who are learning to recycle old things and make them new again, making their own home goods and meals, and finding smart ways to make a buck or two off of their own craftiness and abilities. Blogging has opened my eyes up to the types of girls I thought were becoming obsolete: the DIY girls, the crafting ladies, the thrift store shoppers. And I've gotta say, IT ROCKS!
My most recent blog-inspired project: A DIY baby shower gift! I made a quilt, instead of buying it: saves money and is so much more personal. :)
My hat is off to you ladies who love to save! Keep all of your fabulous posts coming, because here is one girl who is truly inspired and motivated by them. You all remind me that you don't need lots of money to be happy! Pay your debts first and the rest can be stretched further than you could imagine!
Keep on living right,
Ahhh I LOVE this post!! I think everyone needs to read this. We're all short on money at different times in our lives and there's no need to be ashamed of it. There are plenty of free things to do in life and they are usually the most memorable! You are the cutest girl ever and I just love that we're friends :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see all your pictures from your trip!! xoxo
You summed it all up exactly the way I feel (I love when this happens!) Money is always a huge stress factor in life and relationships. I'm glad everything seems to be on track for you guys and that your rough month ended well. It's times like those that make us really appreciate what we DO have! I'm glad everything worked out and he found a new job that he really loves! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your husband. I know I speak for all of us when I say that we are truly sharing in your joy!!
ReplyDeleteIt is so great that you got to be with Jessie, Justin, and Dominic this weekend. All of you are such wonderful people!
God bless.
I'm so proud of you for opening up Paula!! It is very intimidating to put your feelings, struggles, and worries out there for everyone to read. Each time I do, I avoid checking the blog because I don't want to see someone calling me a complainer.. or something mean. It hasn't happened before ha, but it is so scary. So I totally get it :)
ReplyDeleteI also get how scary it is to not know what the future holds, how the bills will get paid, etc. So CONGRATULATIONS Scott!! It's so exciting that it all worked out just perfectly :) and P, you are one totally awesome wifey. I look up to you and how supportive you are to Scott. You two deserve the best life has to offer! <3
You are such a good writer. Your blog is definitely one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby for finding a new job! That is so great. You guys are such a cute, sweet couple. You definitely deserve the best.
And that quilt? Totally great. I wish I had your skillz, gurl.
I'm so happy to hear about your husband getting a job! ReplyDeletei love this post .... i feel the same way about all the diy and ways to save money one.. i find the more blogs i read the more i don't want to spend money or when i go into a store i'm like o i can make this for so much cheaper maybe not the same one but similar.. congrats to the hubs on the job... :) u need to share on that quilt.. i have some squares cut out but thats as far as i've gotten lol..
ReplyDeleteI sooo relate to what you described! I know it's silly but sometimes, I guess I want it to seem like life is always great. I don't write about many bad things because I don't like to dwell on them but some things make up who I am and where I am in my life and that's okay. I shouldn't feel ashamed or embarrassed about that. A truly enlightening, inspiring and 'feel good' post!! You're such a stunning writer!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your husband's new job! :) Also, that quilt is lovely!
